Mosta Frontosa is a division of Cichlidstore.com which I , Bob Keeton, "officially" founded back in 2001 for the purpose of importing and breeding show quality Malawi cichlids, with an occasional Frontosa population thrown in for fun. But over the years, the Frontosas became my focus. The name Mosta-Frontosa came about as a product of my wife's sense of humor. When I'd contact my cichlid collectors in Africa for more wild caught Frontosa, she'd remind me that we already have the most diversified lines of Frontosa being bred by any importer or breeder in the U.S. (Actually, that's her way of saying, stop spending her retirement:) Anyway, one evening while discussing an official name for our Frontosa division, she laughed and says… it's simple, we're the people with the mosta Frontosa! And so my friends, Mosta-Frontosa was born.

So what makes Mosta-Frontosa different from other breeders? Here's a little insight. First and foremost, it's important for you to know that most "internet breeder or sellers" in the U.S. are not directly importing their breeding stock from Africa. Many buy F1 fish (first generation from wild stock) although in many cases they are likely F2 or F3 fish. Consequently, they breed fish which produce F4 stock and that's what you purchase. With Mosta-Frontosa, you get wild caught or F1 fish. We do not breed the offspring of our wild caught Frontosa!

Down here in the warmth of the Florida sun, we have many cichlid farmers that raise their fish in ponds. Pond raising fish can be more than a challenge. You can't control the water quality, temperature, birds, reptiles and other outside dangers from your fish. Pond raising lends itself to inbreeding and results in fish that are far removed from the traits that made the original wild stock desirable. I don't pond raise. I've dedicated 40,000 gallons of climate controlled environment dedicated to breeding and grow-out of Frontosa. We keep breeders and their offspring separated! Our well water is pure and ideal for Frontosa.
